IoT Day 2020 – Three ways you can help guide IoT evolution in Europe

Today, 9 April, on IoT Day 2020, The Next Generation Internet of Things (NGIoT) community invites you to engage on the research priorities, technical challenges and policy specifications that must be taken into account to ensure the Internet of Things (IoT) will become more human-centric.

Interested to know more about current measure to ensure the way we connect our devices must be more respectful of the values we have in Europe such as security, privacy, inclusion, openness and participation?

Here’s three ways to get involved.

1. Roadmap for the Next Generation Internet of Things – share your views

NGIoT has led the development of a Roadmap for the Next Generation Internet of Things. Following an inclusive scoping paper phase, the Draft Roadmap has the following objectives

  • Identify priority topics and potential actions to be taken to ensure Europe’s leadership in IoT;
  • Provide insightful and comprehensive view of IoT evolution;
  • Discuss the challenges from an economic and research perspective; and

2. White Paper on Artificial Intelligence – take part in a process which will guide the regulatory framework for AI and IoT for decades.

In February the Commission published a White Paper entitled “Artificial Intelligence: A European approach to excellence and trust”. The White Paper is accompanied by a “Report on safety and liability implications of AI, the Internet of Things and Robotics”.

An EC consultation is now open regarding the role of AI, IoT and Robotics as well as the challenges including safety and liability legislation issues. The results of this process are expected to inform legislative steps to set the regulatory framework for AI and IoT for decades to come.
